Jean Christophe Novelli is promoting the start of Lent with ’Novelli-flavoured’ pancakes. Don’t panic – no chefs will be harmed in the making of these crepes – it’s just Novelli’s way of promoting his partnership with Findus, world-famous manufacturers of frozen fish-fingers.

It’s an unlikely partnership, for sure. But Novelli is working hard for his new paymasters. He says, “Freezing is nature’s best way of preserving flavours, colours and vitamins and sealing in nutrition”.

Of course, it’s important to seal in as much nutrition as possible if you’re having a White and Dark Crêpe Chocolat from the Novelli-Findus’ range.

The press-shpiel suggests that, if you’re sick of lemon and sugar or similar uninspired combinations, perhaps J-C can tempt you with Apple & Raisin Crêpe Crumble or a White and Dark Crêpe Chocolat – a fine farewell to chocolate for those of you who choose to give it up for Lent.

Best of all, no actual cooking is involved.

The Findus Jean Christophe Novelli range was launched at the end of January 2007, and is now available from Morrison’s, Tesco & Sainsbury’s.
