Chef banned from pub after assault

pub chef has been banned by magistrates from The Woolly Sheep in Skipton as a result of drinking too much on a rare day off.

Paul McGoldrick, 33, had ended up at the Sheep Street pub on the morning of Saturday, September 28 after enjoying the previous evening in Manchester.

Skipton magistrates heard that he and his friend had been drunk and had been told by the landlady Andrea Goodall to moderate their language.

They had eventually been asked to leave, but on their way out, McGoldrick had swept his arm across the bar, breaking a water jug.

He had then been followed by a staff member, Abbey Allen, and had grabbed her arm, leaving her with a red mark.

McGoldrick, who the court heard was a full time chef at a pub in Embsay, admitted criminal damage and assault by beating.

In mitigation, John Mewies said McGoldrick rarely had any time off and had been “significantly influenced by alcohol”.

He said there was also history between him and Ms Allen because of her friendship with the partner of his brother, with whom he had fallen out.

Mr Mewies said McGoldrick bitterly regretted what he had done and that it had been totally out of character.

McGoldrick, of Elm Tree Square, was fined £100 for the assault and ordered to pay the pub £10 compensation for the water jug and £25 compensation to Ms Allen.

He was also ordered to pay a victim’s surcharge of £20 and £85 towards the prosecution costs, Magistrates also imposed an exclusion order banning McGoldrick from the Woolly Sheep for six months or until he was allowed back in by the landlady.
